Reflections on My First Exhibition
As my first exhibition, "Chake Bicho," comes to a close, I’m left reflecting on a journey that has been as inspiring as it has been transformative. This project marked several milestones for me: it was my first exhibition, my first time using a new photographic process, and my initial foray into capturing the tiny yet captivating world of insects.
A little over a year ago, I was approached by the leadership team of a new science museum in Paraguay called MuCi. During our meeting, they presented me with a vision: to bring the hidden world of Paraguay's insects to life through my lens. To achieve this, I employed a custom-built macro-photography setup that allowed me to capture these tiny creatures with extraordinary detail. This involved using high-powered microscopes, specialized lighting, and a precise focus-stacking technique to combine thousands of images into one highly detailed photograph. The process, requiring meticulous attention to detail and a lot of patience, enabled me to create large-scale prints that revealed the intricate beauty of insects as small as 10mm. On average, each image took two weeks to produce.
When "Chake Bicho" finally opened to the public, the results were beyond my wildest expectations. After many months of production and collaboration with the talented design team at MuCi, I was finally able to witness the massive prints of these tiny creatures on display. The exhibition drew thousands of visitors of all ages from all over the country, and it was especially rewarding to see school groups admiring our work. The awe and wonder on their faces were a reminder of why I embarked on this project in the first place.
One of the highlights of the exhibition was the opportunity to speak directly to visitors about the photographic process and the stories behind each image.
On the heels of an incredibly successful exhibition at MuCi, I’m excited to continue this new photographic process in my studio. Stay tuned for updates—"Chake Bicho" will soon have a new home, and I can't wait to continue sharing this project with new audiences.
Thank you to everyone who supported this project, and to all who visited and embraced the beauty of these extraordinary insects. Your enthusiasm and curiosity have made this experience truly unforgettable.
